Date Officially Announced For "Headies" Awards 2017
Organizers of Nigeria’s Awards for pop music and urbane culture "The Headies" has officially set a date to hold the award ceremony.
In a statement released via their Instagram handle, it was announced that the award ceremony will hold on the 24th march , 2018 with four new categories added to the award.
The Headies, will roll out in honour of musicians, producers, performers, song writers, and other professionals in the Music industry who performed well in 2017.
According to The Executive Producer of the award Ayo Animashaun, Nigeria’s longest-running music honours event will return to first Quarter of the year, as well as the addition of new categories. Music released between July 2016 - December 2017 has been reviewed to determine the best nomination and winners for each categories .
Based on the studied schedule of releases, and the availability of talents, the Committee has decided the best period to host our Awards is now March. ‘We want our nominees, artistes, entertainment industry practitioners and enthusiasts’ to have an amazing time and music fans to have even more fun. This is why we have taken every decision; from the new date, choice of venue, categories, and so on’, said Animashaun, who is also the founder of Hip TV.
The four new categories are Best Performer, Headies Viewer’s Choice, Best Song Writer of the year and Industry Brand Supporter. The Viewers’ choice will give fans the opportunity via voting to determine who wins the award; the Best Performer will reward the Artistes whose stage performance within the specified period is astounding and exceptionally executed; the Brand Supporter Award will recognize brands who actively support the industry; while Best Song Writer Award recognize individuals who write and compose lyric.
In all "The Headies" now has 24 Music awards categories, with each winner receiving a 21 carat gold-plated Plaque, and stamp of excellence from the Headies organisers.
